Kichijoji: The City That Has Topped the Popularity Charts for 10 Consecutive Years!

For foreign tourists visiting Japan, Kichijoji might not be a widely known town. However, for those who love Studio Ghibli anime and have visited the Ghibli Museum, it holds a special place in their hearts.

Kichijoji is an incredibly popular town that has consistently ranked first in the “Desirable Places to Live” ranking for the past 10 years. On weekends and holidays, it bustles with numerous tourists.

There are several reasons for its popularity. Firstly, it boasts excellent transportation access from Shinjuku and Shibuya, making it very convenient to reach. The streets are lined with sophisticated shops, giving the town an elegant atmosphere. And then there’s Inokashira Park, which features a large pond and a zoo.

The charming Harmonica Yokocho, with around 100 small shops, is also a hit among visitors. It offers a nostalgic ambiance that can be enjoyed.

Kichijoji is overflowing with a unique appeal that sets it apart from other popular destinations like Ueno, Asakusa, Shinjuku, Shibuya, and Akihabara.
